Man on Wire (12A)
Director: James Marsh. UK 2008. 118mins. Starring: Philippe Petit
On August 7th 1974, a 24-year-old French high-wire artist named Philippe Petit performed one of the most astonishing stunts of the late 20th century: He strung a thin cable between the two towers of the World Trade Centre and not only walked across from one building to another, but also executed a nerve-wracking series of knee-bends and acrobatic movements on the cable, some 1,350 feet above the ground. The Port Authority Police immediately arrest Petit, prompting many to dub his stunt “the artistic crime of the century”. James Marsh’s riveting and beautifully shot documentary revisits and recounts the chain of events.

I’ve Loved You So Long (12A)
Director: Philippe Claudel. France  2008. 154mins. Starring: Kristin Scott Thomas, Elsa Zylberstein, Serge Hazanavicius
Claudel’s debut won two prizes at this year’s Berlin Film Festival and it is easy to see why:
This beautifully scripted tale of two sisters is utterly engrossing. Scott-Thomas plays wonderfully as Juliette, an introverted and fragile woman who has just been released from 15 years in prison. Juliette goes to stay with her younger sister Léa (Zylberstein). Léa has a life as a wife and mother and Juliette struggles to find her place in the close-knit world. As the sisters rediscover common ground, this intelligent portrayal of the power of love builds towards a cathartic conclusion.

EARLY REP
Monday 9 to Sat 14 February
2.30pm / 7.30pm
Intimate Exchanges by Alan Ayckbourn

A One-Man protest: "School Governors' chairman and headmaster's wife in potting shed love tryst!"
The headlines say it all, as sexual confessions in a garden shed trigger a chaotic farce of marital misunderstanding:
a tale of love, lust and burnt trousers...

A Cricket Match: Everybody seems to be in search of fun at the annual Bilbury Lodge School cricket match,
much to the headmaster's disgust.  But when secret passions erupt in the pavilion, pride is crushed and
cricket whites are blood stained...

Christine Lawrence and Simon Stanhope met during Summer Rep 2007 at the Little Theatre, performing, to high critical acclaim, in Alan Ayckbourn's "How the Other Half Loves".  They developed such on-stage rapport and love of Ayckbourn that they decided to form Two by Two Theatre Company to continue this work.  We have invited them back to Sheringham to see more of their comic versatility in Ayckbourn's classic "Intimate Exchanges".  In this series they bring to life an entire community including alcoholic Headmaster Toby and his neurotic wife Celia, nymphomaniac Rowena and her mild-mannered husband Miles, as well as the saucy but sweet home-help Sylvie and infuriatingly inept school caretaker Lionel.
Treat yourself to an early taste of Rep!

PSYCHIC EVENING
Saturday 21 February 7.30pm
I C Ghosts
presented by Shirely Cimelli
As a renowned spiritual clairvoyant medium, Shirley Cimelli has been using her full psychic abilities for the past 36 years. Shirley’s earliest memory of seeing a spirit was at the age of five; “Often at night whilst living at an aunt’s house, a male and a female spirit would appear in my bedroom. They would just smile at me from the bottom of my bed. It scared the life out of me, but little did I realise that later in life I would be working with the spirit realms as a medium.”
In 1975 Shirley attended a ‘spooky service’ and it all started from there; “as I walked into a small hall with the paint peeling off the walls, the words “I’ve come home” came into my mind. That night the medium repeated the very same words that I had heard earlier, and that was when I knew I would work as a platform medium. I love the work I do and the feedback I have received over the years has helped me to believe the importance of the messages I receive and give.”
Shirley has appeared on radio and television. She has many roles that she is called on to use; paranormal investigator, circuit medium, spiritual counsellor and spiritual circle teacher.

JAZZ
Saturday 4 April 7.30pm
The Ken Colyer Legacy New Orleans Jazz Band
The Legacy Band plays the music that Ken Colyer sought out in 1952/3 on his historic trip to New Orleans. It was here, where jazz began, that Ken felt he would hear the ensemble playing of a Golden Age that predated the emergence of the soloist when the music travelled north to Chicago and New York. Marches, spirituals, blues, ragtime and popular songs are all played with a depth of feeling to communicate a range of emotions. The Band seeks to recreate the same spirit and excitement that Ken’s music conveyed; through its performances the music lives on.
Of the Band’s 2006 recording ‘Some Changes Made’ Brian Harvey wrote: “probably the finest set of recordings to carry Ken Colyer’s name … they sound as relaxed and laid-back as did many of the classic Colyer line-ups. The Band is keeping the New Orleans flame alive, whilst not slavishly copying his sound … Get out and hear the band whenever you can. Above all, tell your friends about it and get them there too.”
